Marvel’s Avengers finally brings everyone’s favorite superheroes to life in a thrilling cinematic gaming experience. The UI style is based around the concept of being powered by J.A.R.V.I.S., bringing some hologram and light projection based flair inspired by the movies.
My role included:
- Working with tech art and engineering to implement a new system to bring in game materials to use on the UI for animations
- Refining and tuning the ‘glitch’ and other transition materials for the UI
- Defining and creating hero-specific material animations for each hero’s heroic and intrinsic special move meters using After Effects, inspired by their unique VFX (lightning for Thor, gamma radiation for Hulk, chroma shift lines for Kamala, etc.)
- Creating concepts for some VFX, including red grenade AOE indicators, hero-specific VFX, and Thor’s Bifrost heroic move
- Creating iconography for hero skills (specifically Thor and Kamala)
- Implementing UI to be functional using Flash/Actionscript/Scaleform, including initial implementation as well as several style overhauls for menus and other UI, including gear, skills, objectives, vendors, cosmetics, information panels, fabrication machine, mission summary screen, character select, HUD, and the War Table
- Working to implement and verify UI localization in several languages, including Arabic
- Pushing and implementing accessibility features as part of the accessibility team, including completing detailed APX accessibility training from the Able Gamers charity
